The Cosmopolitan Fashion Model Company issued patterns as late as 1899 in their fairly substantial pattern catalog. Like many pattern companies of this period they were based in New York.
Unfortunately not much else has turned up about this company - I'd welcome anyone to post or email me with additional information.
Sometime around 1999 or 2000, the Vintage Pattern Library purchased a large lot of these patterns from a dealer on ebay.
According to the description, they had been found in the upper floor of an old general store on the east coast that was slated for demolition - apparently having been there since 1899.
A number of other pattern dealers purchased from this lot - and the patterns still crop up on ebay from time to time. This specific lot is identifiable by the fact that the envelopes were partially stuck to the pattern sheets. (For those looking to purchase some of the original patterns, you can find them at Vintage Cat.)
